Conference goers…the last day of the Conference was great, particularly Mr. Bruchac. He is an incredible storyteller and is infectious, what a great person to speak last, he kept us energized!
I hope that everyone had a great conference. Please add anything you like to this blog once you are home and have taken a nap. Have a great weekend! Hope to see you soon!

Nancy Pearl signed action figures and Booklust after her talk last night. She began her speech with “I am a reader. For Better or for worse, that has been my life.” She asked the audience: “How many of you brought a book with you today, in your purse, right now, in case things get a little boring?” Over half the room raised their hands. We’ve got a blog, and we’ve got a seminar on blogging. So it’s kind of a no-brainer that the blogging seminar should be on the blog, right?
Here’s what those interested in blogging for their libraries are experiencing right now.
here is the Hammons room…

… with your host Grace Hammond.

have fun blogging!

Today during lunch, SDLA conference attendees had the opportunity to watch the performance of Three Voices “Speaking From the Past.” Geraldine Goes In Center, Joyce Jefferson, and Lilah Pengra portrayed three characters from the Lakota, Afro-American, and Euro-American cultures in South Dakota history. The women sang, played instruments, and performed different interpretations of events leading up to Wounded Knee. After the performance the group discussed the research behind the production and answered questions from the audience. It was a moving and informative performance.
(Pictures to come!)

Sue Grafton was gracious enough to pose for a picture & have a “Read” poster made with her likeness. 9 lucky attendees of her talk last night won copies, and many had them autographed afterwards. Thank You, Sue!

She runs 10 miles a day. She has written 198,987,789,976,346 bestsellers (ok, a few less, but you get my point). She’ll never “sell out to those Hollywood thugs!” She is absolutely macabre and interesting and fabulous. She is Sue Grafton. (Please click “more” after the pics to read more about her talk!)

SDLA Executive Board Session: “Incoming and Outgoing Members.” (The 2006 Board is pictured above.)
Notes from this session:
I attended this session as an incoming member of the Intellectual Freedom Committee. The session began with introductions of the incoming and outgoing board and committee members.
Mary Bushing, the keen “question-asker” that is infamous at our library and many other libraries around the world, initiated dialogue about our membership. (more…)

My coworker had the opportunity to rub elbows with Ms. Grafton before her talk tonight. Travis (the Information Access/Publications Librarian I at the Rapid City Public Library) described her as a very down-to-earth woman with a lilting voice…sounds like she should read her own audiobooks! We are all looking forward to her session tonight. Below are some of the pictures from this encounter. I’ll be at her talk this evening, and hope to get a chance to meet her as well. More about that later…
